The market and making calls

Telecommunications in Taiwan

Taiwan’s history as a centre of technology has given it one of the most robust telecoms markets in the world, with customers increasingly preferring to consume media through computer and smartphones.

International mobile phone manufacturers have found Taiwan to be an ideal market to produce and test their products, as it is small, easily monitored and receptive to new developments in technology.

Broadband Internet access in Taiwan covered 80% of households in 2012. This represented an increase of 12% on the previous year, showing just how technology friendly the Taiwanese are. The cost of the service, when compared to the connection speed, is very affordable as providers have committed to making Taiwan competitive with other networked Asian nations like Korea and Japan.

The large number of Internet cafes, and widespread WiFi coverage, mean staying connected outside the home is incredibly easy, and prices for using these services are cheap compared to Europe and North America.
