Psychological treatments, translations and home care

Special services

The Norwegian public health system also offers some 'extra' services which are of a very high standard.

Mental illness and diseases are taken seriously in Norway. If you suffer/are suffering from anxiety, bereavement and depression, you can be treated in local public medical facilities.

The District Psychiatric Centre provides each Norwegian municipality with specialists and the Primary mental health care services are quite extensive in Norway: along with basic psychological and psychiatric aid, it also provides accommodation for a large number of mentally challenged people.

Schools offer psychological support and pedagogical tutoring to teachers and parents. If you are in need, don't hesitate to contact your GP (for minor problems) or the emergency department of the nearest hospital.

Interpreter service

In public facilities there are interpreters available for foreigners who do not speak Norwegian properly and for the deaf. Patients need to request this service in advance but it is completely free.

Nursing and home care

By law, the health and social services have to take care of people who can not leave their houses. Municipalities will provide necessary services such as general medical practices, physiotherapy and nursing. These services aren't always 100% free and Norwegian municipalities are allowed to set fees to cover costs.
