Making friends in Ireland - why is this so hard??

  • I have been living for 4 months now in Ireland - and all my friends are foreigners!!! Why is it so hard to make Irish friends? Sometimes I get the impression that they prefer to stay amongst themselves. This is not really what I expected when I came here.

  • making friends

I havent gottn there yet...but I have a friend there and I have spoken to a friend of his and she the end result was quite nice...I mean I felt good after the brief introduction. Its refeashing to speak to someone and be well recieved but I know the moment I openned myself to be unafraid of her opinions she did the same for me. Before that moment of being honest with myself it was only a conversation with someone I didnt know.
I just had to remember I wanted to get to know her so I had to be open for her to get to know me.

  • Ignore the Original Poster, it's a troll

Some Swiss asshole is trying to make it look like it's difficult to make friends everywhere... he's going around to every forum and copying/pasting what someone said on the Swiss forum.... He's trying to deflect from the fact that it is truly is difficult to make friends in Switzerland (Switzerland is the hardest country to make friends). But let him be, he's a jealous swiss loser.

Hi all, Good but weird to try and find friends and genuine friends on a website blog like this!
I am happy in a relationship and work during the week and very very busy so dont really have time to pursue any interests...I would like to meet someone who likes to go out and do stuff, Whether its the cinema or clubbing doesnt really bother me but I need to make friends! I seem to have lost all mine when I went into this relationship.. Any suggestions?

  • Making friends in Ireland

Hi Carlos, I hear you there, I have been living here for 11 years and whilst generally happy with life and living with my partner, I dont have any friends that I can ring us and say howzit going? Wanna go out, meet up, get trashed etc...
Why do Irish people not like foreigners? I have never been able to make female friends whilst here and men think they're in with a chance because I am friendly to them! Beats me!!!! Recently I have decided that its healthy to go out and make friends apart from my partner but I just dont know where to start. When I came to Ireland I would go anywhere by myself but now going into my thirties I suddenly feel otherwise. Should I just have the guts and go out by myself??? It would be a cheaper night wouldnt it???
    Any suggestions?

hi all im from ireland and just want to say just get out there keep smiling saying hello and making small chat.Im living in Australia and have said it about here its hard to make friends and the reasons I think as people have busy lives and have friends already, so we as expats have to come out of our comfort zone and put our selfs out there and really make an effort, may be join some groups, sport or even the gym and start chatting. it will happen

  • Easy to make friends~

Most Irish are very friendly and will approach you to speak sometimes, but this seems to make foreign scared or shy, me personally ive met a lot of Chinese people but yes they are very shy and do not talk often. But if anyone needs a friend in Ireland feel free to contact me

  • friends always wanted

Hi all i moved to County Westmeath mid march. I have no one i could call a friend but people do talk to me and are friendly. I've been to the toddler group and the ladies there told me many people move over but don't know how to approach people to make friends, and that it was good to see me making the effort. Having the kids does make it easier, but I can understand how people feel it can feel very lonely when my partner is at work. SO if anyone fancys a chat or even snail mail then feel free to get in touch. [email removed]
