wait times for MRI and medical treatment in Canada

  • After a a 24 month wait, I finally received news that my Canadian permanent residency application has been accepted. I am a British citizen with a relatively large extended family; my plans are to bring them all to Canada, but my concern is that I have heard that wait times for relatively easy medical treatments like a hip replacement could take months if not years from the moment that are diagnosed to the time that are fixed. Let along the wait times of critical diagnosis like MRIs, which I understand could take months.

Are there any supplemental private insurance policies that could be purchased to cover the shortfalls of the Canadian Health Care System?

supplemental insurance is available in Canada. What you will not find are private clinics in most provinces.

  • 13 months waiting time for an MRI in Ontario

I was placed in a waiting list for 13 months for an MRI in Ontario. Given that it is MY LIFE, I decided to go to the states and pay for it. It was about $2000 (trip included) but now I have peace of mind that it is not what it was suspected it could be.
